The GRPM Puzzle (Escape) Room!
Currently, one of the biggest trends in West Michigan are Escape Rooms. However, that is not exactly what we participated in tonight - it was cooler!
Grand Rapids Public Museum has put its own spin on an Escape Room and has created a Puzzle Room - Quest for Conviction! Instead of trying to get out of the room we were in, we had to figure out how to convict a real-life murder suspect from the early 1900's in 1 hour by finding 5 pieces of evidence!
Now you're probably wondering how we found this activity...
My Wednesday night small group co-leader and I decided we were going to do an "Escape Room" for our get together with the high school students. Except we ran into a little financial issue...
While researching other alternatives in the area, I stumbled upon the Grand Rapids Public Museum's page. Now, to be completely honest, I was not expecting the experience to be spectacular. I truly thought it was going to be lame... but IT WASN'T!
As we walked into the "Puzzle Room", the guide played a video for us explaining the real murder mystery we were to try and solve. The video was short and sweet and provided us with just enough information to get the job done.
The guide proceeded to take us into yet another room, which was the actual "Puzzle Room." He started the clock and our girls went nuts trying to solve the puzzle. There were locks to open, tons of keys to choose from, little trinkets everywhere, and five pieces of evidence we had to try and find. THIS WAS INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT!
I am awful at solving puzzles, riddles, you name it. So I honestly was walking around clueless, trying to encourage my group. There were little things that I did find, and wasn't able to put two and two together. However, I managed to pull through in the end! I helped find the very last piece of evidence with one second to spare!
Yay victory!
All in all, I highly recommend that people try out this super fun, NOT AT ALL LAME, affordable activity!
ONLY $15/PERSON and a great way to avoid the cold in the upcoming winter!
Until the next adventure...
