5 Reasons To Hike Rosy Mound This Winter
It's day 4 of my 10 day vacation from work and I am already feeling so refreshed! I am someone who loves to be outside and go on hikes and I finally had some free time this past Saturday to go on one! It's seriously been months since I've walked on any kind of trail and I was craving some nature!
Here are the 5 reasons why I chose Rosy Mound for my hike:
1.) LOCATION
If you live in West Michigan, this hike is right in your backyard. If you live in another part of Michigan but may be planning a weekend trip to come to the westside, this would be an easy activity to get to! The trail itself is also in a wonderful location, taking you straight out to Lake Michigan.
Distances from Michigan Cities according to Google Maps
- Grand Rapids: 40 min // 39.0 miles
- Holland: 25 min // 18.2 miles
- Lansing: 1 hr 36 min // 104 miles
- Traverse City: 2 hr 47 min // 172 miles
- Detroit: 2 hr 54 min // 194 miles
- Ann Arbor: 2 hr 32 min // 169 miles
2.) A HIKE FOR EVERYONE
It's a trail for everyone. According to miottawa.org, it's only a 0.7 mile hiking trail from the parking lot. Fair warning, there are quite a few stairs - 1,000 feet to be exact (you will have a little workout). There is also a dune boardwalk that makes it easy to walk right out to the beach front.
Unlike the summer, you do not have to pay to access this amazing trail. Free views, free nature, free beach access! You can't beat that!
4.) UNWIND AND PRAY
One of my favorite places to connect with Jesus is through nature and hikes. Taking a moment to just breathe in the fresh, brisk, lakeshore air makes you realize the incredible beauty our Lord has created. Time really stands still when you simply are present and have all focus on Jesus. Your cares, worries, and stresses of life get put on hold, and the greatness of our Lord becomes the only focus.
5.) THE VIEWS
If you have not experienced Lake Michigan in the winter, YOU HAVE TO! It is incredible to see the waves frozen in time, and glistening in the sunlight. There is something about the peace and quiet of the trail as well; the dunes are dusted with light snow and the wooded animals' tracks are present.
There's still time left in this winter season!
I would love to hear about your next winter trip to Rosy Mound!
